Another Filipino documentary censored

The film "Food Delivery" tracking the efforts of fisherfolk and authorities to provide food to communities facing Chinese aggression in the West Philippine Sea is removed from the film festival Cinepanalo 2025. 🎙️ From #Newsroom to Lens: Robin N. Hamilton’s Journey Through Documentary Filmmaking and Social Activism

Hey everyone, Marco here. You know I’m all about storytelling—the way it connects us, challenges perspectives, and shapes the world around us. This time on Audio Signals Podcast - on ITSPmagazine, I had the privilege of sitting down with Robin Hamilton, an #Emmy-winning #journalist turned #filmmaker who has dedicated her craft to shedding light on untold stories and driving meaningful change.

Robin’s journey is fascinating—starting in fast-paced newsrooms and evolving into documentary filmmaking, where she takes the time to explore complex narratives with depth and impact. Her films highlight figures like #FannieLouHamer, whose fight for #votingrights still echoes today, and #OdessaMadre, a woman whose legacy challenges our perceptions of power, crime, and opportunity.

In this episode, we dig into how Robin chooses her subjects, crafts her stories, and balances activism with artistry. We talk about the power of independent filmmaking, the responsibility of shaping narratives that matter, and why stories—when told right—can change the way we see history, society, and ourselves.

If you’re passionate about storytelling, filmmaking, or social impact, this conversation is for you.

Join us as we explore the intersection of journalism, documentaries, and the stories that need to be told.

🎥 "Stealing a Nation" is a 2004 #documentary about the British–American clandestine operation that saw the expulsion of the Chagossian population who have lived on Diego Garcia and neighbouring islands since the late 18th century. More than 2,000 people were exiled to Mauritius between 1967 and 1973, so that Diego Garcia could become a US military airbase.

“Pressured into removing a humanising portrait of Gaza’s children, the BBC offers instead a series on Israel-Palestine that frantically revives the very narrative that made the genocide possible”

🧵 1/3: I don’t ask people to #repost #retoot & #share often, in fact ever. But here I’d like to ask the Fediverse to share as widely as possible:
Watch #Oscar-winning #documentary #NoOtherLand for free here channel4.com/programmes/no-oth. If you are not in the UK, you can use a VPN. The film charts the destruction by the #Israeli army of Masafer Yatta, a group of rural villages in the #WestBank, #Palestine, and the unlikely friendship of film co-directors, #Palestinian Basel Ada & Israeli Yuval Abraham

"Look, this goes to Murdoch too. He doesn't believe in objectivity, he has contempt for journalism, I think.

They wanted all news to be a matter of opinion. Because opinion can't be proven false. And I think that's very dangerous, because if people don't have a set of facts that they can agree on I think it's difficult to reach a consensus on what's public policy."
